Odessa Avianna Perez is a healer, artist and spiritual activist. She is a certified ThetaHealing Practitioner and Instructor, Licensed Massage Therapist and current Graduate Student at CIIS for Somatic Psychology. A recent graduate of the School for Embodied Leadership and part of the facilitator team for HoneyRoot, she is dedicated to the synthesis of body and spirit, and the healing that can occur in integration. Currently she offers experiential workshops and trainings in Contact Improv, Developing the Empathic Sense, ThetaHealing, Meditation, and Movement Improvisation locally in Nevada City and the Bay Area, as well as up and down the west coast at festivals and retreats.
Odessa completed massage training at the San Francisco School of Massage and Bodywork in July 2013, Raindrop Training at the Lightwing Center in 2012, and first received her Theta Healing certificate in 2011. She has Bachelor Degrees in Dance, Sociology, and Theater from Rutgers University, and is currently pursuing her licensure as an MFT through her studies at CIIS.
She has additional training in Spiritual Communication and Coaching, Polarity Therapy, Cranial Sacral Therapy, Infinity Healing, Aromatherapy and Psychic Development. With this breadth of practices she has deepened her understanding of energy healing, bodywork, and aromatherapy, and further honed her intuitive, empathic, and communication skills.
Raised within a western Sufi community called the Sufi Way, Odessa has been immersed in energy healing modalities, self-empowered health, and spirit-consciousness all her life. These early mystical inspirations have created an experiential and compassionate framework for her approach to transformation and healing: she believes that our experiences can be our greatest teachers, and that when we empower ourselves to be active participants in our lives, the greatest transformations can take root.
As a dancer, Odessa has a keen sense of how our bodies are key participants in our experiences, memories, and lives as they unfold. Bodies carry the cellular imprint of all of this. Through her own experience of illness and injury, Odessa has witnessed that our bodies often know what’s needed before our minds do. Learning to trust our bodies, decipher the language they speak to us every day, and learn from the embodiment of our experiences can be an enlightening pathway to greater healing and transformation.
Odessa has been making dances since 2005, most recently using video, text, and dance performance to explore healing from trauma in a solo work entitled Coming Home. Odessa is a devotee to the dance practice Contact Improvisation and teaches CI classes that welcome the physical, emotional, energetic, and spiritual aspects of being in a body: the limitations, the metaphors, and all the rest of our human experience.
Odessa is unendingly fascinated by the polarity of separateness and unity, the phenomenon of deeper embodiment, and the impact that personal healing can have on the greater collective. She’s excited by the possibilities that we are all creating in this world as we gain more consciousness. She views healing, quite simply, as the journey of self-empowerment and greater awareness.
Welcome to your Odyssey.
